Hokkaido, one
area at a time.

Follow a canal into craft shops, read the island’s histories, or leave time for a lakeside view. Start with your base and the season, then choose a day with room to explore.

A good place to begin

Waterfront, glass and small melodies.

Walk Otaru’s canal before browsing Sakaimachi. Glassware, a lamp-lit café and the music-box main building make a compact half-day with room for a food break.

Choose the region, then the stops

Hokkaido is too large for a single city-style walking itinerary. This first collection focuses on central and southern areas; it does not yet cover eastern Hokkaido. Keep Sapporo, Hakodate and the inland flower-and-pond area as distinct travel plans, allowing transport time between bases.

Season matters. Mount Hakodate Ropeway is closed for maintenance through 8 November 2026, and Asahiyama Zoo closes 4–10 November before winter reopening. Flower fields and blue water are not winter guarantees. Check individual guides and official calendars before travelling.
