Make space to learn about living Ainu culture.
The national museum and lakeside park provide a substantial introduction to Ainu culture. Give exhibitions and the day’s programmes time, approaching the visit as an opportunity to listen and learn rather than a short photo stop.

Choose programmes alongside the museum
Check the day’s timetable and any capacity or ticket requirements before deciding your route. Workshops and special exhibitions may have separate conditions. Leave time for the museum’s interpretation rather than trying to collect every activity in one visit.
Read the calendar closely
Ainu culture is contemporary as well as historical. The park and museum offer different ways to engage with it, including outdoor time beside Lake Poroto. Announced closures include 28 December 2026–4 January 2027 and 27 February–8 March 2027; check the official calendar for holiday exceptions.
