Put the island’s landscapes and histories together.

Natural history, human history and Ainu culture meet in a museum beside Nopporo’s woods. Begin here if you want context for the buildings at the neighbouring Historical Village rather than treating them as isolated scenery.

Choose a few themes to follow

Allow time to read connections between environment and people, instead of rushing through every display. Special exhibitions can require another ticket. The permanent exhibition works well as the first half of a longer visit to this part of Sapporo.

Pair it with the village

A joint ticket with the Historical Village costs ¥1,400 for an adult. Leave sufficient daylight for the outdoor buildings and check both calendars. Upopoy in Shiraoi offers another substantial visit focused on Ainu culture, but requires a separate journey.
