Mō Ippon! (もういっぽん!, “One More Ippon!”) is a manga written and drawn by Yu Muraoka. It follows Michi Sonoda, Sanae Takigawa, Towa Hiura, and the growing girls’ judo team at the fictional Aoba Nishi High School. Michi plans to quit after her final middle-school competition, but friendships formed through judo draw her back. The series began in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shōnen Champion in 2018, moved to the Manga Cross web service in 2023, and concluded in thirty collected volumes in 2024. Rather than centre an invincible prodigy, it distributes attention across teammates, rivals, coaches, training partners, and team orders. A television anime adaptation produced by Bakken Record began broadcasting in January 2023.

Publication history
The manga began in Weekly Shōnen Champion in October 2018. In 2023 it transferred to Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross service, allowing the same story to continue as a web serialization. The thirtieth and final collected volume was released in August 2024. The change of platform did not create a separate sequel.
Premise
Michi’s initial decision to stop judo makes continuation—not recruitment—the opening question. Sanae and Towa reconnect her to the sport, while Anna Nagumo’s later choice adds another path into the club. The title expresses the emotional value of seeking one more clean score, match, and shared opportunity rather than a promise of constant victory.
Team and character structure
The cast is organized through the practical needs of a small club: recruitment, available weight classes, injuries, school obligations, and team order. Rivals recur instead of disappearing after one tournament. Their changing strengths and friendships give competition continuity and prevent opponents from functioning only as obstacles for the protagonists.
Judo depiction
Matches use recognizable throws, groundwork, penalties, gripping problems, weight-class differences, and the strategic consequences of team scoring. Visual clarity matters more than exhaustive explanation. The story also shows practice, conditioning, video study, and coaching, presenting technical success as the product of preparation and adaptation.
Girls’ school sport
The series treats girls’ judo as ordinary school sport rather than an exceptional spectacle. Body size, confidence, hairstyle, food, romance, and future choices appear without reducing every character to one issue. It avoids the older premise that a woman athlete must choose between femininity and competition, while still showing the social pressures surrounding adolescence.
Competition and community
Qualifiers, training camps, national events, and joint practice broaden the setting from one school to a network. Coaches and former athletes connect current teams with institutional memory. Victory is meaningful, but the series repeatedly values a good contest, a technically honest attempt, and relationships that persist after the result.
Television anime
The television adaptation was directed by Ken Ogiwara, with series composition by Aya Satsuki and animation by Bakken Record. It began broadcasting on TV Tokyo and BS TV Tokyo in January 2023. The anime adapts an early portion of the manga; it does not cover the full thirty-volume narrative.
Significance
Mō Ippon! expands the range of judo manga by focusing on a contemporary girls’ team and the renewable pleasure of participation. Its ensemble approach makes it useful for comparing fictional school sport with the more biographically framed JJM: Joshi Jūdōbu Monogatari and the celebrity narrative of YAWARA!.
