Tohoku · Miyagi / Sendai
Follow the wooded ascent to Date Masamune’s mausoleum.
Colour, carved detail and the wooded setting give Zuihoden its character. This is a visit to a mausoleum complex rather than a flat city museum, so allow time for the approach and a slower look at the architecture.

Plan for the ascent
The operator notes roughly 80 steps on the approach and more within the precinct. That makes access materially different from a level gallery visit. Choose the route with your walking needs in mind and allow a pause before studying the building’s decorative detail.
Separate special openings from daily access
Special occasions may permit views that are not available on an ordinary day. Use the regular visitor route as the basis of your plan, with the history museum as an additional part of the visit. Matsushima’s temples are a separate journey from Sendai, not a continuation on foot.
