Take a slower route around the pond.

Paths, bridges and carefully framed water views make Shirotori a rewarding garden visit in southern Nagoya. Leave room to pause rather than trying to fit it between several distant attractions.

Follow the water and sightlines

Give the bridges and pond edges time: small changes of position create different views of trees and buildings. Tea-room use and special events are separate arrangements, so check the programme if tea is the main reason for coming. The ordinary garden walk is worthwhile on its own.

Pair two different kinds of quiet

Atsuta Jingu and Shirotori offer a shrine walk and a designed garden in the same part of the city. Allow time between them and finish at the garden before last entry. Seasonal illuminations do not run every evening; consult the event calendar before planning a night visit.
