Understand the craft before choosing the object.

Sakai’s traditional industries meet in a museum-and-shop setting, with knives, textiles, incense and local products. Begin with the displays upstairs, then browse the shop with a clearer sense of the tools and processes behind the objects.

See the knife-making stages

The CUT knife museum explains history and production with tools, models and examples. Compare the unfinished stages before looking at finished knives in the shop. Demonstrations happen on a programme; do not assume a craftsperson will be working throughout opening hours.

Link craft with Sakai’s tea history

Sakai Risho no Mori offers a different perspective through tea and literature. Allow travel and a break between the two. The 2008 exterior photograph shows the predecessor museum building before the current Denshokan branding and displays; use the official site for today’s interiors.
