Browse for the unexpected between the arcades.

Use the shopping map
The district is a network rather than a single indoor mall. Mark a shop or meal stop on the official map, then explore around it. Ask before photographing inside small shops and keep space for customers at entrances and counters.
Leave room for a break
This is a good finish after the science museum or a temple visit, especially when you want a less scheduled afternoon. Evening dining hours do not mean every retailer stays open late. The photograph shows Banshoji Street in January 2025; individual businesses may have changed.
