Choose the paid temple visit
The interior route and garden views are the reason to allow more than a quick precinct walk. Follow the current route and photography instructions on site; worship and ceremonies can affect access. The photograph shows the historic Chokushimon gate.

The temple has announced an adult admission increase to ¥1,000 from 1 January 2027. Special closures are also published on its website, including 15 November 2026. Build a little flexibility into a Gion afternoon instead of treating the temple as open without exception.
