Jigoro Kano

Jigoro Kano (1860–1938) was the founder of Judo, a leading educator in modern Japan, and a pioneer of the Olympic movement in Asia. His best-known achievement was transforming older jujutsu traditions into Kodokan Judo. Yet his larger ambition was educational: he wanted physical practice to build knowledge, character, health, and a sense of responsibility toward other people.
