Look at a home where Japanese and Western rooms meet.
Orange roof tiles and stained glass introduce the restored former home associated with actress Sadayakko Kawakami. Inside, the shift between Japanese and Western spaces gives this compact museum much of its character.

Look at the transitions
Notice the windows, stairs and the different ways rooms admit light. The building is a restored and relocated house, so read the interpretation as well as appreciating its surfaces. Check the current displays if literary history or Sadayakko’s life is your main interest.
Keep the architecture walk compact
Shumokukan is nearby, while the City Archives adds a larger public building to the same outing. Check the shared Monday closure before setting out. A joint ticket covers the two house museums, not a guided tour or every special event.
