Nagoya · Nagono / Nishi Ward
Look for the old merchant city at street level.
Warehouse façades and narrow adjoining streets give Shikemichi a different texture from the station towers nearby. It suits a short, attentive walk followed by a café or restaurant stop in the wider neighbourhood.

Notice the street width and façades
The name recalls a street widened to four ken after a major fire. Today the pleasure is in seeing how storehouses and houses sit together in the city. Look from public space; a historic exterior does not mean a private courtyard or interior is open.
Make a small neighbourhood afternoon
Add Endoji’s arcades rather than crossing the city immediately after a short walk. Choose a particular café in advance if you want a guaranteed seated break, and check its closing day. Quiet lanes need the same consideration as any residential street.
