Read the marks in the rock

Exhibits explain the geology, cutting methods and movement of stone. Below ground, pickaxe marks remain on the walls. We suggest slowing down to notice these traces of work as well as the dramatic chambers.

Prepare for the descent

Bring a jacket. Standard access does not accommodate wheelchairs or strollers. Visitors with walking difficulties should contact the museum ahead about limited weekday assistance.

Plan a Tochigi day trip

Check return buses and current closure notices before travelling. Keep stairs and narrow passages clear when photographing; tripods and selfie sticks are prohibited.
