Look closely at the making of a festival.

Large illuminated festival floats give this waterfront museum its scale and colour. Begin with the objects, then use the interpretation and scheduled activities to understand how Aomori’s Nebuta festival takes shape.

See the craft beyond the spectacle

Walk around the displayed floats and compare the forms, faces and painted surfaces. The selection changes when floats are replaced after the festival. Check the day’s activity programme if music or participation matters to you; an ordinary museum ticket is not a ticket to the summer street festival.

Use the station location well

This makes a practical first or last stop in Aomori. Leave time to look inside rather than only photographing the distinctive exterior. Sannai-Maruyama and the art museum require an onward bus or other transport; they are not part of the station waterfront walking area.
