Fukuoka · Reisenmachi / Hakata
See the everyday life behind the festival city.
A reconstructed townhouse and exhibition buildings introduce Hakata’s domestic life, local traditions and craft skills. The scale suits a thoughtful hour in the old town, with a chance to look at making as well as finished objects.

A former home and workshop
The machiya building was originally the home and workplace of a Hakata-ori weaver. Notice the domestic scale before moving through the displays. A shop and café area renewed in 2025 adds another place to pause; the archival exterior photo predates that renewal.
Choose a craft session separately
Painting Hakata dolls, papier-mâché or tops, and other activities follow different schedules. Confirm the current fee, available session and booking requirements before arriving. Do not assume a general admission ticket includes a workshop or that a guided walk runs every day; current cancellation notices take precedence.
