Understand sake where it is made.

In Fushimi’s brewing district, this museum introduces sake through historical equipment and a self-guided visit. Build time around the museum for the surrounding streets instead of treating Fushimi as a stop between central sights.

Museum, not a production-line tour

Come for the history and explanation of brewing. This is an unguided museum visit, with a smartphone guide available, rather than guaranteed access to a working factory floor. Tasting is for visitors aged 20 and over; choose a visit that suits everyone in your group.

Reserve before travelling south

Walk-in admission depends on capacity. Check the official booking page and temporary closures before setting out: the museum also closes over the New Year and during part of August. The exterior photograph dates from 2008 and predates the museum’s more recent renewal.
