This hillside zoo is a dedicated outing from Asahikawa rather than a quick stop on the way through town. Choose a manageable route, check the day’s programme and allow time to watch rather than moving continuously between enclosures.

Use the seasonal calendar
Summer and winter have different hours, with a closure between seasons. The November 2026 winter reopening does not itself guarantee a particular animal activity. Check the day’s programme and conditions before making one demonstration the purpose of your visit.
Allow for slopes and outdoor time
Plan footwear and breaks around the season and the hillside layout. The entrance photograph is from 2007 and is not a current enclosure guide. A full zoo visit and a distant Biei or Furano stop can become rushed; give each journey its own realistic block.
