Choose a garden, a gate and a longer look.

Nanzenji combines a spacious temple precinct with separately ticketed sights. Decide whether you want garden views, the Sanmon gate or a shorter walk around the grounds, then give that choice enough time.

One temple, several tickets

The Hojo garden and Sanmon gate each require their own admission. The brick aqueduct adds another architectural layer to the precinct walk. There are steps and slopes, so choose the route to suit your mobility rather than assuming every area is equally accessible.

Check restoration and seasonal access

Do not assume Nanzen-in is open: access has been affected by roof work and special openings. Consult the current official notices before adding it. General paid visits close from 28–31 December; last admission is 20 minutes before the listed closing time.
