Start with materials
Use the permanent displays to compare techniques and finishes. This is a good place to build a vocabulary for later craft shopping: pick one material or process to follow rather than trying to remember every object.
Demonstrations need planning
Demonstrations and hands-on programmes depend on the day. Check the event schedule and any reservation or language requirements before making a workshop the centre of your trip. The archival photograph shows Miyako Messe, the building that houses the museum.
