Choose your notebook

Build a notebook by selecting its covers, paper, rings and closure. The shop offers paper samples to try, so consider how you actually write: a travel diary, quick sketches or letters may call for different surfaces and layouts.

Kakimori also replaces the inner pages of its ring notebooks, allowing a favourite cover to stay in use. This makes a thoughtful souvenir for someone who enjoys objects that become part of everyday life.

Mix a colour at Inkstand

Upstairs, Inkstand offers a separate custom-ink experience. You have 45 minutes to experiment with a mixing kit; staff then need at least 60 minutes to prepare the finished bottle. Allow 105 minutes or more overall.

The first approximately 35 ml bottle costs ¥5,500 including tax; additional bottles are ¥3,000 each. Bring a photograph or colour reference if you have a particular shade in mind. Test the mixture on paper as you go.

Book Inkstand in advance. While staff prepare the ink, you can explore the neighbourhood and return for collection; confirm the pickup time before leaving.

Reservations and collection

Notebook orders normally do not require a weekday reservation, with exceptions during busy holiday periods. Reserve for weekends and public holidays. Limited walk-in places may be available, but collection can be on a later date or by paid delivery.

The B6 and B5 prices above are typical budgets from the shop’s FAQ, rather than fixed package prices. Materials and optional personalisation affect the total. Notebook orders close at 17:30; ask about completion time before ordering, especially near the end of your trip.

Use the separate notebook and ink links above to select the right service. Booking one experience does not reserve the other.

Think about materials and making

The notebook and ink experiences offer specific choices to notice: paper, covers, colour and the way an object will be used. Read Monozukuri for a wider discussion of how design and making connect.

For another encounter with colour and repeated processes, explore Some no Sato Ochiai’s stencil-dyeing experience. Its Japanese Textile Arts background explains the wider range of textile methods.

Make a Kuramae afternoon of it

Pair the visit with HATCOFFEE for another personal creation: custom latte art. Treat the two as separate stops and leave room for their reservation and collection schedules.
