Kyoto Okazaki Half-Day Walk
Build an eastern Kyoto afternoon around craft, a reserved garden visit and Nanzenji. The core route uses one museum; add the KYOCERA Museum of Art only by shortening or replacing another stop.
- Allow
- 4–5 hours including a break
- Walking
- Approximately 35–50 minutes
- Start / finish
- Higashiyama / Keage
- Book first
- Murin-an timed garden entry
01 · Start at 10:00 or early afternoon · 60–75 minutes
Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design →
Begin in the basement of Miyako Messe. Focus on a few materials or techniques. If you prefer a specific exhibition at the KYOCERA Museum of Art, substitute that museum rather than trying to do two full visits.

Murin-an →
Take a lunch or coffee break before your reserved slot, allowing a buffer for the walk. The hourly reservation is not a ticket for arrival at any time. Check the date-specific admission price when booking.
Address, map & visitor details ↗03 · Continue east · 60–90 minutes
Nanzenji →
Finish with the precinct and one paid area: the Hojo garden or Sanmon. Each has its own ticket. Leave for Keage after the visit, and do not assume Nanzen-in is open during restoration work.

Choose the day after checking the museum calendar and Murin-an availability. In winter, work backwards from Nanzenji’s 16:10 last entry and allow time for the paid area. This is an outdoor walk between indoor stops, with steps and garden paths; it is not a fully sheltered route.
