Gardens and Slow Walks in Kyoto

Choose the kind of outdoor time you want: a composed garden, a seasonal plant collection or a temple precinct with several possible routes. None requires a promise of perfect blossoms or empty paths to be worthwhile.

Go for the stone figures and the downhill continuation through Saga-Toriimoto. It needs more travel time than the central gardens and is closed Wednesday and Saturday.

Make the plan work for you

Choose one main area rather than crossing Kyoto between all five. Rain, heat and seasonal crowds change the experience. Photographs in the individual guides are dated archival views; blossoms, foliage and access should be checked for your actual travel date.
