Let the season choose the route.

A spacious botanical garden gives northern Kyoto a different rhythm. Choose a few plant collections or the conservatory rather than trying to cover every path, and let the season shape what you look for.

Plants and seasonal walks

A living collection, not a fixed display

Opened in 1924, the garden is a place to compare plants as well as enjoy a walk. Flowering times change with the weather. Check the current highlights before travelling for one particular bloom, and treat the archival photograph as an illustration of the setting.

Leave time for the conservatory

The conservatory normally finishes earlier than the grounds. Visit it first if it is a priority and check seasonal adjustments or separately ticketed events. Stay on permitted paths and leave plants, fallen leaves and other natural material in the garden.
